Sirkka opens this episode with something of a disclaimer: she does not have blonde hair or blue eyes, so if you were picturing a typical Finn, you may need to adjust.

What follows is a surprisingly personal account of how she looks and how she presents herself to the world. She talks about her brown hair, its natural reddish tint from when she was younger, now long faded, and her two previous hair experiments: purple highlights in primary school, black dye in middle school, which she thought would suit her and quickly discovered did not. She mentions her green eyes, her height of 150 cm (4′11″), which she attributes to a pattern on her mother’s side of the family that nobody has quite explained. 

Her approach to style follows the same logic as most things with Sirkka: practical where it needs to be, personal where it can be. She ties her hair up for work and wears home clothes to the local shop, keeping things simple and comfortable. She favours earthy tones but wears colour in winter just because she feels like it. Makeup she isn’t really a fan of, because she prefers to look like herself.

It is best suited for intermediate Finnish learners at B1 level. Upper A2 learners may understand the main ideas but may find the detailed descriptions and natural spoken structure challenging.
