Description

What kind of person is Sirkka beyond everyday routine?

In this episode, Sirkka reflects openly on her personality, values, and way of approaching life. She describes herself as deeply curious — someone who gets genuinely excited about learning, especially when a topic feels personally meaningful. This narrative provides an excellent opportunity to practise spoken Finnish through more abstract themes, as Sirkka talks about studying Lithuanian and Romanian in her free time, about her selective interests, and about the joy of exploring subjects that truly matter to her. At the same time, another side of her emerges: a quiet, introverted person who finds comfort in silence, enjoys travelling alone, and prefers small Baltic towns over busy tourist destinations. She shares a story from Panevėžys in Lithuania and explains why peaceful environments feel more inspiring than big, noisy cities.

The episode also touches on naturalness and simplicity in everyday life, direct communication, professional responsibility as a dentist, optimism in the face of uncertainty, and the well-known quote by former Finnish president Mauno Koivisto that reflects her outlook on life:“If we cannot know for certain how things will turn out, let us assume that all will turn out well.”

The package includes an audio recording, a full transcript, a Finnish-English vocabulary listvocabulary explanations, multiple-choice questions, and a complete answer key. This Finnish listening practice lasts approximately 7 minutes and features a monologue using typical Eastern Finnish speech patterns. This episode is primarily aimed at intermediate Finnish learners at B1 level. Upper A2 learners can work with it using the transcript, but the abstract reflection and natural speech make it more suitable for B1 level.
